| Tasting notes | Vega Sicilia Valbuena 5º 2019 is a powerful yet finely composed expression of Ribera del Duero, showing the depth, tension and elegance that define Vega Sicilia’s second wine. The nose opens with ripe black cherry, blackberry, plum and cassis, layered with cedar, tobacco, sweet spice, graphite, cocoa, dried herbs and subtle balsamic complexity. On the palate, the wine is concentrated, polished and structured, with dark fruit carried by fine-grained tannins, fresh acidity and beautifully integrated oak. Notes of black cherry, dark plum, liquorice, clove, leather, earth and savoury spice build through the mid-palate, finishing long, precise and persistent. The 2019 vintage shows both richness and restraint, with the power to cellar and the elegance to drink with serious food. A benchmark Ribera del Duero from one of Spain’s most important estates. |
| Food pairing | Best paired with roast lamb, suckling lamb, ribeye, dry-aged beef, slow-cooked beef cheek, venison, braised short rib, mushroom and truffle dishes, jamón ibérico, aged Manchego, hard sheep’s milk cheeses and Spanish-style roasted meats. |
