| Tasting notes | Vega Sicilia Valbuena 5º 2020 is a refined and deeply polished expression of Ribera del Duero, showing the elegance and precision that define Vega Sicilia’s second wine. The nose opens with ripe black cherry, plum, blackberry and cassis, layered with cedar, sweet spice, tobacco, graphite, dried herbs, cocoa and subtle balsamic notes. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, structured and beautifully balanced. Dark fruit sits at the core, supported by fine-grained tannins, integrated oak, fresh acidity and savoury complexity. Notes of black cherry, dark plum, clove, liquorice, leather, cocoa and earthy spice carry through to a long, elegant finish. More approachable than Único, but still built with the structure and ageing capacity expected from Vega Sicilia, Valbuena 5º 2020 offers both immediate pleasure and serious cellar potential. |
| Food pairing | Best paired with refined, savoury dishes such as roast lamb, slow-cooked beef cheek, ribeye, dry-aged beef, suckling lamb, venison, braised short rib, mushroom and truffle dishes, aged Manchego, hard sheep’s milk cheeses, jamón ibérico and Spanish-style roasted meats. |
| Cellaring potential | 25 years – Drink now until 2045 |
